Someone once told me that Alaska is like that mean girl that exists in every high school. We all knew her. The super beautiful, jaw-dropping gorgeous one. But she had a mean streak, was a little moody, a little arrogant, kinda crazy and definitely not for the faint of heart. I think of that sentiment every time my windows rattle in Palmer windstorms and smile. I am not sure Alaska is actually MEAN. But she is definitely headstrong, an adventure, large and in-charge.
Brad + Emily were actually scheduled for a helicopter tour. Of course, Alaska had other plans. Instead of the sunny glacier wedding the couple had envisioned, they were given a snow storm with visibility too low for a safe flight. They could have been disappointed. They could’ve rescheduled. But they just shrugged, laughed at the irony, and asked me to lead the way. They had signed up for an adventure, after all.
Girdwood is an idyllic little ski town with a seriously photogenic streak. We knew right away where we should take these two to create the best photos with the ingredients at hand. Honestly, it turned out to be one of our very favorite winter elopements to date and who knows, maybe the helicopter location wouldn’t have rivaled what we were given anyway. Sometimes detours are a secret gift. And the open, happy heart always holds the most room for joy.
