I (Hanna) was pregnant with my first child at the same time as my sister-in-law (Angela). Gideon and Jocelynn were the first two to enter the world and lead the pack of what would eventually become 14 crazy cousins. Our kids grew up shoulder-to-shoulder, same pregnancies, same town, same schools. I’m not sure how many sleepovers we have swapped but it is probably in the thousands. Jocelynn is my niece but feels more like an extra daughter at times.
One of my recent sessions was extra special because I got to carve out yet another memory with her: senior photos. It is hard to imagine that this year our two little firsts will be crossing that threshold between childhood and adulthood. (Can you believe it Ang?!) I keep pinching myself and it keeps being real. But here I am, working at this computer, her beautiful self filling my screen. While editing I’ve had a few good eye waters, sappy texts, and most of all a full, happy heart.
Jocelynn is an old soul. A reader. She’s smart. (You should see her GPA) She’s poetic and a romantic and has a deep well of a heart. She’s an over-thinker, an empath, one of the most caring humans you’d meet. She is probably the hardest working child I’ve ever known. If she were a flower I think she’d be a daisy. She’s brave. Quirky too. A little vintage. A little boho. She’s a whole vibe.
